Rebuilding Lives in Ssese Islands
Devastating Fires
This year, during our medical mission in Uganda, SNI had the opportunity to visit Kalangala in Ssese Islands—a beautiful yet deeply challenged community. While walking its streets and connecting with local families, we witnessed the kindness of the people of Lutoboka, and children at the UPENDO village school.
When the fires happened a few months later, the heartbreak of the fishing villagers’ loss deeply resonated with us, and we knew we had to act.
A Beacon of Hope
The fires didn’t just destroy homes—they impacted the very heart of the community’s future: its children. But even amidst the devastation, the determination to provide education has not wavered. The school itself has become a symbol of resilience and hope. Despite the challenges, hundreds of children continue to gather in its tiny, overcrowded classrooms, eager to learn and dream of brighter futures. Pastor Mark and UPENDO School have inspired surrounding fishing communities to come together, recognizing that investing in education is the key to changing generations to come.
A Vision for the Future: Homes, Meals, and Education
As we look to the new year, our mission extends beyond rebuilding houses. SNI is committed to addressing the daily struggles faced by these families, particularly when it comes to providing nutritious food for their children. Currently, hundreds of children attend UPENDO Village School, often on empty stomachs. With your continued support, we hope to introduce much-needed school meals. These simple meals can have a profound impact—boosting health, improving focus, and enabling children to thrive in their education.
Rebuilding Lives, Together
The fires may have brought destruction, but they have also revealed the strength and compassion within this community. Sponsorship Network’s swift response, combined with the resilience of the people of Ssese Island, has brought new life and new hope to the village.
With the support of our incredible sponsors, we have seen what is possible. 10 homes completed. 15 more to go. And with continued effort, we can ensure that not only will families have safe, permanent shelters, but the children of Ssese Island will have access to food and education—two fundamental needs that can change the course of their futures.
This Christmas, we invite you to celebrate with us. Together, we can bring joy, security, and opportunity to families who have faced unimaginable loss. Thank you for standing with SNI, for believing in our mission, and for making hope a reality for the people of Ssese Island.
